1. Star Wars Outlaws set to outshine them all

2024 is the year to be a Star Wars fanatic. The Ubisoft 2024 release is set to be one of their biggest yet. The software company has really stepped up their game. They are set to release the highly-anticipated yet subtly advertised Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in early December, but fans of the company already have their eyes set on an even bigger prize.

Developed alongside The Division studio Massive Entertainment and in conjunction with Lucasfilm Games, the Star Wars Outlaws release is going to be pretty major. The big selling point, of course, is the open-world gameplay, but the really interesting part is the time period and wide variety of map selection. Instead of choosing a ready-made and pre-released storyline, the developers have chosen to add a piece to the expansive world of Star Wars with their very own sub-story.

The game follows thief, bounty hunter and all-round scoundrel Kay Vess and her adorably mischievous side-kick Nix. The game will allow players to explore the various well-known planets of the Star Wars universe, and it uses space combat gameplay to fulfil any fan’s wildest dreams. The game itself is set in the same time period as the original story, positioning itself between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, but the date for release is yet to be set. The only downside to this game is that it is current-generation exclusive. Just in time to add a new Xbox to your Christmas wish list!

Ubisoft is also offering a great deal with its subscription service, giving subscribers a meaty discount if they choose to purchase the game with Ubisoft+. Is that another Christmas present idea, or am I just being greedy?

2. Microsoft Flight Simulator takes players to France

Another much-anticipated game release for next year is the Microsoft Flight Simulator, and they’ve already started to tease gamers with a couple pre-releases.

RDPresets have just announced the launch of Marseille Provence International Airport (LFML) for the game, and let me just say, this is pretty major.

For a bit of background on the airport, it is one of the major gateways to France, offering both domestic and international flights and sees a number of airlines flying in and out every day. The airport offers voyages to and from over 110 destinations in roughly 34 different countries. For aeronautical nerds and gamers alike, this airport simulation is a dream come true.

The RDPresets package allows you to explore the entire building via a detailed virtual replica, including custom ground objects, exquisite night lighting and Easter eggs.

A definite must for those with a taste for being an aviation whiz, and if you’re interested in learning more about the game, check out this interview with the head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, Jorg Neumann, here.

3. Little Nightmares III launches a podcast pre-game-launch

It’s been almost six years since the release of the hit game Little Nightmares. Viewed in the gaming world as so much more than just another Indie Game, this work of art is about to add another chapter to the 2-piece story.

When Little Nightmares II launched in 2021, the reviews all praised the intricate puzzle-solving and creepy yet cute ambience. Within the span of one year, Bandai Namco and Supermassive Games announced their collaboration on yet another Little Nightmares entry, and they released the trailer.

Little Nightmares III follows the story of two children trapped in The Spiral, desperately trying to find a way out. With the help of the player, the children, Low and Alone, must find a way to escape whatever it is that lurks in the shadows, waiting to pounce. The gameplay will have you on the edge of your seat, and the eerie music is anything but relaxing. Players can choose the single-player option or opt for the online co-op with friends.

For your first taste of Little Nightmares III, I recommend listening to the freshly released podcast series, The Sounds of Nightmares, which explores and explains the lore of the trilogy. Praised for its aesthetically pleasing imagery, this little peek behind the scenes really boosts your appreciation for the game.

So there you have it. The most important and definitely the most exciting news in the gaming world for December. It’s hard to escape the shadow of the new Star Wars addition, but these other launches have definitely proven themselves on the battlefield and are worth your attention.
